The Qur'an is a guide to life for humans, which was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad SAW. with the main aim being to listen to, reflect on and put into practice in human life. The Koran is a guide for Muslims in living every step of life. To be able to understand the message contained in the Al-Qur'an, the first step that must be taken is to read it. The problem that can be raised in this research is the efforts of Islamic religious education teachers to improve students' ability to read the Koran. Meanwhile, the aim of this research is to find out the efforts made by Islamic religious education teachers in improving students' Al-Qur'an reading skills and what are the supporting and inhibiting factors in improving the Al-Qur'an reading skills of students at SMP Negeri 26 East Poleang. The type of research in this research is phenomenological research with a qualitative descriptive approach. The object of this research is PAI subject teachers and students of SMP Negeri 26 East Poleang regarding teacher efforts to improve students' Al-Qur'an reading skills. Data collection techniques in this research are observation, interviews and documentation. The results of this research conclude that the efforts of Islamic religious education teachers to improve students' ability to read the Koran are through the Iqra' method, this method is used by PAI teachers to improve students' ability to read the Al-Qur'an by taking one of the surahs in the Al-Qur'an. The Qur'an is then written on the blackboard and then the teacher reads the verse for the students to follow. Then with Muraja'ah (repeating reading), this muraja'ah method is very influential and very important for memorizing and also remembering and maintaining the reading of the Al-Qur'an and preserving the Al-Qur'an. The supporting factors in this research are hadith interpretation books, Al-Qur'an translations, a conducive atmosphere, prayer rooms and the existence of awareness and enthusiasm for student learning. PAI lessons, lack of PAI subject hours, and the influence of a teacher's age.
